PU polish, or polyurethane polish, is a durable, malleable polymer used as a protective coating for wood, metal, and other furnishing surfaces. It comes in a translucent liquid form, allowing the base surface to remain visible. This polish protects against moisture, scratches, dust, water, and harmful UV rays while maintaining an attractive appearance. PU polishes are available in both solvent-based and water-based forms, offering a range of finishes from matte to glossy. Water-based polishes are more environmentally friendly, while solvent-based finishes are a more traditional option. Available in various stains, PU polish can be chosen to match the desired wood shade. It is odorless, dries quickly, and requires minimal maintenance, creating a protective layer with excellent resistance.

Melamine matte polish is one of the most common and preferred options, used not only in India but also internationally. Melamine is an organic compound often combined with formaldehyde to create melamine resin, a fire-resistant and heat-tolerant synthetic polymer. This resin is highly stable and versatile. The polish consists of a thin layer of resin that, when applied to wood, forms a protective film-like coating. Melamine-polished wood has a closed surface, which primarily protects the wood from temperature extremes, both hot and cold, without significantly altering its appearance.

Both PU and melamine polishes can be applied to veneer sheets. Veneered, glued furniture results in well-finished pieces that appear as clean, artistic creations. It's important to check which technique your carpenter is using—whether it's the nailing technique or the gluing process—before proceeding with the finish.
